Google is set to give Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides a new look that closely aligns with its Material Design 3 design system. The redesign will include darker hues to make the toolbar and comments stand out, as well as rounded shapes for the “Share” button. Users can preview the new designs in an image and GIF on Google’s website.

Moreover, Google will add support for third-party smart chips, such as Atlassian, Asana, Figma, Miro, Tableau, and ZenDesk, to integrate with documents directly, similar to Notion and Coda. The company is also introducing its new smart chips, such as stopwatch, emoji voting, and calendar invite chips for Docs, and date shortcut chip in Sheets. The updates are set to roll out in the coming weeks.
